It gets so much easier after a while. Don't get intimidated. Remember: The person you're sparring also started from your level.

Sparring is something that we do almost every Muay Thai class. Whether it be Knee Sparring or just full out sparring. Thing's I've learned from sparring is:

Spar with everyone, don't stick with one partner. Everyone has a different fighting style, so switch it up and it'll help you learn how to adapt. It's doubtful you'll fight someone in a match with your sparring partner right?

Like you said Tom, sparring isn't about hurting your partner, save it for a match :P

The most important thing is after sparring, try to analyze everything you did, why did I get hit so many times? Ask for feedback. Sparring is part of self development as a fighter, and the best thing you can do to prepare.

You can do all the padwork in the world, but if you can't spar, well you're deadmeat.

I've been training in muay thai for about 3 months now and love it. My first month I was sparring with a really great fighter and needless to say he worked my face and stomach hard. I'm a quick learner and just recently noticed that all the sparring has helped. Last week when I sparred against him, I gave him a run for his money. It was great =). keep your hands up guys and keep sparring.

Another thing to remember is that sparring gives you an opportunity to try different things. If you are sparring in prep for a fight, you might want to stick with what works, but if you are messing about, then you can try different setups, feints, etc.

Good post.
